Silent Photos

I was looking through last season's photos and this one...



...reminded me how limiting photographs can be.

A still image can't relay to the viewer the tangy odor of the decaying apples on the grass. You don't see the mosquitoes that we were constantly swatting at. You can't hear the giggles and my requests to 'Smile' and 'Look over here!' while I try to get a good picture of both kids (and no blinking). You can't tell that we snuck a few berries off of the raspberry bushes. Or that we were about to pack-up and visit the sheep just down the road.

This is just a 'snapshot' of the moment, but the stories before, during and after swirl around the image from our memories.
